On Tuesday I appeared on Alex Bogusky's "FearLess" live-streamed talk show for a wide ranging discussion on advertising, design, creative thinking, and even a little politics.
It's also been great talking about Glimmer and design thinking the past couple of days with students at the University of Colorado at Boulder. On Monday night, I was joined by Kevin Grady of Boulder's Crispin Porter + Bogusky for a half hour discussion of design as part of the university's "Innovator" series. About midway through the event, we connected by Skype to Bruce Mau in Chicago. It was kind of a first: The university technical staff had never tried to Skype in somebody to one of their live presentations before and we were all wondering how it would go. It ended up being very cool—as if Bruce were joining the conversation suddenly from the sky (he was projected on a large overhead screen). He took questions from Kevin and me, as well as from the crowd. There's a nice review of the whole event here.
My visit ended with a solo presentation to students at Boulder Digital Works. BDW is a new kind of digital learning environment developed by CU Boulder as a joint effort of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the College of Engineering and Applied Science. It's focused on developing today's and tomorrow's digital leaders and entrepreneurs. The group's interest in Glimmer and in this whole subject of design thinking was pretty exciting for me. I told them all about GlimmerSite, and hopefully some will be joining the community. Now I'm headed home—if I can ever find a way to get back into snowbound New York City.

The ability of designers to just begin, and begin anywhere, is critical—and it’s something we can all learn from. What helps designers move forward in the face of uncertainty is a step-by-step methodology….
