“We get 100 ideas a day”
One of the themes in Glimmer is how "everyone's a designer" these days. And if you go look at the website Quirky.com you'll see that notion in action, with more than 100 product ideas a day submitted to the site. Now comes a 6-part TV series based around this "social product development" company. The show offers a behind-the-scenes look at how Quirky selects and develops ideas of amateur inventors with the help of its very active online community. Money is being made off this model.
The show begins Tuesday, Aug. 30, on the Sundance Channel. (Watch the trailer here.)
And here's an illuminating New York Times interview with 24-year-old Quirky founder Ben Kaufman. Lots of good info and anecdotes (about toilet bowl brushes, among other things).
