Cusato, Marianne
Marianne Cusato is the designer of the “Katrina Cottage,” conceived in 2005 as an alternative to the FEMA emergency trailers supplied to survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The Katrina Cottage won a National Design Award in 2006.
In Glimmer: Cusato takes readers through her experience in trying to design alternative housing for Katrina survivors, and also explains why, when it comes to housing, less is more.
Currently working on: Cusato, based in Miami, runs a design/architecture firm that bears her name.
Quote: “People are becoming aware that the way we’ve been living, and the design of our homes, isn’t working anymore. We’re living beyond our means in so many ways.”
